However, SPRAVATO is taken differently than a pill or liquid. It is a highly regulated FDA-approved medication that can only be dispensed by authorized SPRAVATO providers. But what can you be prepared for during your SPRAVATO treatment Near Roxbury?

SPRAVATO Should Only Be Administered Through An FDA-Approved Provider

SPRAVATO can only be given under strict medical guidance at a facility certified in the SPRAVATO Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) program. We’ll also talk about common side effects, many of which occur directly after the dose and subside the same day.

What Happens At Your SPRAVATO Treatment

Your first appointment at our certified SPRAVATO treatment center near Roxbury is a consultation. You will have an assessment to see if you have treatment-resistant depression and if this option is right for you. You may be eligible for SPRAVATO if you tried two or more conventional depression treatments and did not see improvement in your symptoms.

Beginning SPRAVATO Treatment Near Roxbury

Your SPRAVATO treatment can begin as soon as your second session. But before you begin, there are a handful of things to consider.

  • Arrange transportation. You’ll need a ride to and from our facility as you won’t be allowed to drive or do anything that requires complete alertness until 24 hours later.
  • Bring something to do. Once you take the spray, you’ll be monitored for at least two hours. Bring a something to read, a fully charged phone, or another form of handheld entertainment.
  • Guidelines for drinking and eating. Since SPRAVATO can cause stomach irritation and vomiting in some patients, don’t consume food for at least two hours prior and avoid liquids for 30 minutes.
  • Stay away from other nasal medications for at least one hour. If you ingest nasal corticosteroid or nasal decongestant medications, do so at a minimum of one hour before your treatment.

Once you’ve made your preparations, you’ll be ready to start your SPRAVATO treatment. We will give you instructions you on how to take the nasal spray. You will self-administer the spray while under the direct care of our healthcare professionals. We’ll observe you for a minimum of two hours for side effects and alert you to when it’s ok for you to go home.

For four weeks, you will take SPRAVATO twice per week. Once finished, we’ll talk about the effectiveness of your dosage and recommend the next steps that considers your symptoms, progress, and other factors.

What Will I Feel Like During A SPRAVATO Treatment?

SPRAVATO provides a relaxed, calm state that helps lessen your symptoms of TRD. The dosage does not cause sleepiness in most patients, but you might feel sleepy or doze off during treatment. The drowsiness or sleepiness you feel should leave fairly quickly after the office visit ends or during your monitored recovery period.

Other complications are possible, including nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and disorientation. However, many patients experience little or no side effects at all.
